Since nuts are a very common migraine trigger yet I really love almond milk, I decided to try making my own oat milk. It turned out to be super easy and yummy too!
Ingredients:
2 cups rolled oats
6 cups water
vanilla extract, cinnamon, honey, etc. if desired
Instructions:
First, soak oats for a few minutes and then rinse them. This will get rid of the “slime” that they release. Next, add oats and water both to the blender. Blend on high for about 10 seconds. Put a strainer over a large bowl. Pour blender mixture through strainer into bowl. You may need to move the mixture around in the strainer to allow the liquid to get through. Dump the “oat pulp” into a separate bowl and keep adding batches of the oat milk to the strainer until all of the liquid has been strained. You will notice that if you strain the milk again, you will get even more pulp out of it. If you would like to flavor it or sweeten it, add vanilla, honey, syrup, etc. now. When you have finished straining and flavoring your milk, pour it into a jar. It will keep in the refrigerator for 4-6 days. Enjoy!
*(I used this recipe the first time I made it and it was very good, but also still pretty thick. I would say that more water or less oats could be used.)
